The Good Life: Kai
I have dyslexia and am Autistic. School was difficult for me, so I started making my own fidgets when I was 11 because I couldn’t find anything that wasn’t noisy or embarrassing!
My Mum would do craft markets. And I would bring my fidgets and sell them there. More and more people were asking for them, so I decided to make it a little business. After it got more popular, I did a teen business program. Then we got a website and started to wholesale to stores.
I’m really happy that my products are helping people. Which is one of the reasons why I started. I’m happy that the business has gotten so big, because it means that I am able to help even more people.
My tip for other teenagers is that for every idea you have, always try it. The quote I live by is ‘Go hard or go home’. Because you miss 100% of the chances, you don’t take.
Be you, don’t try and change who you are. It’s ok that you are different to other people; everyone is different. I think Autism is my superpower. My advice to people is to find their passion and turn that into your occupation.
Having a good life is being able to enjoy family and friends. It’s being able to travel and help other people with my products. Having a goal to work towards is what gets me through challenging times. My goals are to grow my business and one day be able to own my home.
